For TWINOAKS

Seventy-five characters.

Independent work. Not commissioned or endorsed by TWINOAKS, Publicis Groupe or any retailer. Lakeshift Coffee Co. is an invented brand. The retailer rules are real, cited and were last checked on October 10, 2026.

On July 27, 2026 Amazon cut product titles to 75 characters and began rewriting titles that run over. Walmart, Kroger and Target each use a different rule. Copy written once and pasted four times now fails somewhere.

This page is me doing that job on one product, start to finish. Every count on it is measured live.

Where this job sits

Where this job sits.

The posting asks for someone to audit client brands on Amazon, Walmart, Kroger and Target, write their product pages, adapt them to each retailer, brief creative, and get the content live and checked. Here is that chain, and where the specialist stands in it.

  1. The brand.

A brand sends what it knows: a spec sheet, a roast log, pack artwork. That is the raw material. Nothing on a product page should say more than this.

  2. The specialist.

Audits what is live, writes from the facts, adapts the copy to each retailer's rules, briefs the images, checks everything, sends it, and compares what went live with what was sent. Six jobs. This page is one chapter per job.

  3. The retailers.

Each one has its own limits and its own door: Vendor Central or Seller Central, Supplier One, Syndigo or Salsify for Kroger and Target. The retailer can rewrite what you send.

  4. The shopper, and now the assistant.

A person reading the page, and increasingly a shopping assistant reading it for them. Both need the same thing: facts in the right fields.

  5. Why the brand is invented.

I cannot use a TWINOAKS client's product, and I will not audit a real brand's live pages from the outside. So I made Lakeshift Coffee Co.: three roasts, two forms, six SKUs, nineteen facts, each with a source. Every claim on this page can be traced to that sheet.

Transcript

Until this summer, most Amazon product titles could run to 200 characters.

On July 27, the limit became 75. Titles that run over get rewritten by Amazon.

So every word has to earn its place. Some move to the new highlights field. One becomes an image. Some were never facts, and they go.

The same story then has to fit Walmart, Kroger and Target, each with its own rules. Where I can't verify a rule, I hold the draft.

I wrote one Amazon title pattern for all six coffees: three roasts, ground and whole bean. Five fit under 75 characters. The sixth ran one over, so I cut the word 'Bag' from all six to keep them consistent.

Then it is checked, tracked from draft to live, and compared with what the retailer actually published.

I'm applying for Specialist, eCommerce at TWINOAKS. The work is on the page.

Job 1 · Know the rules

Four shelves, four rulebooks.

Amazon allows 75 characters and rewrites titles that run over. Walmart allows 150. Kroger asks for about 100, no commas, no size. Target keeps its rules behind a login, so I hold it.

  1. Amazon: 75.

75 characters including spaces, all categories except media, from July 27, 2026. Titles that run over get rewritten by Amazon. The words that no longer fit have a new home: Item Highlights, 125 characters.

  2. Walmart: 150.

Up to 150 characters, with no all caps, no promotional claims and no repeated keywords. Key features run 80 characters each, and the description needs at least 150 words.

  3. Kroger: about 100.

Brand, descriptor, variable, product name. Ideally 100 characters or less, title case, no commas, no size or count. It is a guideline, not a hard stop, from Kroger's PDP Guidelines of July 2025.

  4. Target: held.

Target's current title, bullet and description rules sit inside its vendor and Target Plus portals. The one public checklist carries no date. I do not guess a number, so the Target draft is held until someone reads the rule in the portal.

  5. Every rule has a date.

A rule older than 90 days gets re-checked before I rely on it. Last checked October 10, 2026. The full register, with every source, is on the rules page.

In the workbook Rule Register, Limits

On a live account I would add each client's category templates to the register, because that is where the bullet and attribute limits actually live.

Job 2 · Audit the listing

The listing as found.

A title written for a 200-character limit, three bullets with an emoji and a guarantee Amazon restricts, a 33-word description, two images, six SKUs as six separate listings. Sixteen out of a hundred on my rubric.

  1. Title.

174 characters for a 75-character field. It ends in '!' and says 'Coffee' five times.

    A1 scored 0 of 2

  2. Bullets.

Three bullets: one emoji, one money-back guarantee, and 'best' with nothing behind it. Amazon restricts the first two.

    A2 · B2 scored 0 of 2

  3. Description.

33 words about the people who started the brand and none about the coffee: no roast, no grind, no origin, no roast date.

    C2 · C5 scored 0 of 2

  4. Images.

Two images. Neither shows the grind, the yield or the roast date, which are three of the nine things a shopper asks.

    E1 scored 0 of 2

  5. Variations.

Six SKUs listed as six separate pages, each titled a different way. A shopper cannot switch roast or form on one page.

    D2 scored 0 of 2

  6. Scored, then rewritten.

Five areas, weighted. As found: 16 out of 100, Needs work. The draft rewrite: 89, Strong. Two checks are still short in the draft: the images are briefed but not produced, and the A+ layout needs Brand Registry.

  7. What to fix first.

Shopper impact × evidence ÷ effort. The title pattern and the bullets come first. The carousel matters a lot to shoppers, but it costs photography and sign-off, so it ranks after the fixes that cost nothing.

In the workbook Audit Scorecard, Priorities

On a live account The same rubric runs on the client's brand and two or three competitors, so the priorities are relative to the shelf, not to a perfect page.

Job 3 · Write from facts

Start from what is true. Then cut.

Nineteen facts, six of them with conditions. One promise. Seven messages in a fixed order. Then the old 174-character title goes through the cut and comes out at 67, and every word has a destination.

  1. The fact sheet.

Every fact has a status and a source. SPEC can be used as written. BASIS only with its basis next to it. TASTE needs the brand's sign-off. HOLD waits for legal. NO is never said.

  2. A number with its working.

F14 34 cups is a calculation: 340 grams divided by 10 grams a cup. It can only appear with that basis next to it.

  3. A claim on hold.

F18 'Stays fresh longer' is held until there is shelf-life data. The copy uses a fact instead: the roast date is on the bag.

  4. A claim not made.

F16 No certifications are held, so there is no organic or fair trade language anywhere. If a shopper asks, the answer is that it is not certified.

  1. The name stays.

Six parts are the product's name: brand, line, roast, form, species and size. They land in the Title, and '12 oz' moves to the end.

  2. True, but not the name.

Three parts move to Item Highlights and get rewritten as facts: tasting notes instead of 'Smooth & Bold', the brewers instead of 'Drip Coffee Makers', the roast date instead of 'Fresh Roasted!'.

  3. Never facts.

Five parts fall out: 'Coffee' for the fourth and fifth time, 'Bag', 'Premium Gourmet' and 'Best Coffee'.

  4. One becomes a picture.

The roast date is also the headline of image 5, because a stamp you can see is better proof than a sentence. The title is 67 characters. It passes.

Day Shift is the middle of the Lakeshift lineup, a medium roast for people who want one coffee that works all day. We roast Arabica coffee from Colombia and Guatemala to 3 on our 1 to 5 scale, far enough for body and not so far that the roast covers the coffee. In the cup, expect milk chocolate and toasted almond with a little orange zest at the finish. This bag is ground to a medium grind for automatic drip machines and pour-over brewers, so there is nothing to grind and nothing to guess. Use 2 level tablespoons for every 6 fluid ounces of water, the same guide printed on the pack, and a 12 ounce bag makes about 34 cups. Every bag is stamped with the day it was roasted in Grand Rapids, Michigan, so you can check how fresh it is before you open it. The zipper closes the bag between brews. If you like a brighter cup, try Early Shift. If you like it darker, try Night Shift.

Low priority at six SKUs. A+ Content and Brand Stores need the brand to be in Amazon Brand Registry. Premium A+ eligibility has reportedly changed this year; I would confirm it in Seller Central before planning for it.

On a live account This brief goes to the creative team with the fact IDs attached, so a designer can check any line on an image against the sheet.

Job 6 · Ship and verify

Drafted is not live.

Six states, each with an owner and a check. The last one, comparing the live page with what was submitted, is the one that gets skipped. Amazon rewrites over-length titles and Walmart's content team can override supplier copy. If nobody compares the two, nobody knows.

    • Check No rejection or attribute error in the feed report.
  5. Published.

    • Owner Retailer
    • Leaves this state when The content shows on the live page.
    • Check Live page opened and dated.
  6. Verified live.

    • Owner Specialist
    • Leaves this state when The live page matches what was submitted.
    • Check Field-by-field compare on the Monitoring Log: MATCH or DRIFT.
  7. What drift looks like.

A day after publishing, the Early Shift Whole Bean title on Amazon came back without '100% Arabica'. That is DRIFT. The action: raise it with the account lead, confirm which version the brand wants, resubmit. This row is a modeled example.

  8. And now the assistants.

Amazon's assistant is now Alexa for Shopping, Walmart has Sparky, Kroger launched its own this summer, and Target sells through third-party assistants. None of them has told brands how it uses product content, so I keep to what a brand can control.

Résumé (PDF) LinkedIn

Who is applying

What is mine, and what is new.

For nearly five years at Universal Wholesale I built and ran two storefronts and a catalog of more than 14,000 SKUs: product information, imagery, collections, search metadata and platform migrations. At Wild Bill's Tobacco I managed the wholesale e-commerce catalog and built campaign pages with marketing and merchandising. In September 2026 I audited 21 Michigan storefronts against 29 checks for my own benchmark, ShelfMark.

I have not yet submitted content through Vendor Central, Seller Central or a syndication platform, and I have not worked in an agency. What I have done is manage a lot of product data carefully, and this page is how I would prepare content so that submitting it is the easy part.
